Chameleon Portal, CHI@Edge and Jupyterhub

Resolved Posted by Mark Powers on January 30, 2024
Outage start Tuesday, January 30, 2024 8:30 a.m.
Expected end Wednesday, January 31, 2024 5:59 p.m.

Update 5:45 PM Jan 31: Jupyterhub and CHI@Edge are restored.

UPDATE 2:45 PM: The datacenter staff have restarted the portal VM service.

CHI@Edge and JupyterHub are still down, but are expected to be back later today.

We would like to correct our previous statement: other Chameleon sites were affected in that leases could not be made. Running experiments were unaffected.

At 8:30 AM central time this morning, the Chameleon Portal, CHI@Edge, and Jupyterhub went down.

We believe the root cause to be a datacenter power maintenance that was supposed to be unrelated.

However, this maintenance has caused an interruption in the managed VM services that we used to host Portal and portions of Jupyterhub.

The datacenter ops team in investigating a resolution for the managed VM service, but we do not yet have an ETA.

As an upper bound, the overall power maintenance is expected to complete by 8PM, but we expect this outage to be resolved before then.

Other systems, such as CHI@TACC and KVM@TACC are unaffected.

We will update when we have a better ETA a resolution.
